On the Horizon

A closer look at some of the new Genesis Land offerings coming soon to Calgary and Airdrie.

At Genesis Land, we make it a priority to create beautiful, accessible communities that inspire active living and bring a sense of delight to residents and visitors, alike. As we head into yet another summer season, we’re pleased to know that people are out there enjoying the many parks, pathways and water features that enhance each and every one of our neighbourhoods. And we’re excited to shine the spotlight on some new offerings that are launching soon.

A fitness-forward playground in Bayside

Known and loved for its canals, playground and green spaces, Airdrie-based Bayside is almost always abuzz with people making the most of the community’s outdoor amenities. And sometime later this summer, there will be another park there to enjoy.

“This particular park is unique for us, because it will include a paved pump track, as well as a parkour-type fitness playground,” says Dan Pochapsky, a development manager here at Genesis Land.

While this new recreation area will be open to everyone, it was designed and built with a specific age group in mind. “A lot of our other parks and play areas in Bayside have been keyed toward toddlers and younger kids,” Pochapsky says. “We tailored this one to a mature demographic because we wanted to make sure that older kids, teenagers and adults have something to enjoy as well.”

About 1.3 acres in size, the park is divided into designated activity areas. The paved pump track—which is suitable for all wheeled users, including bikes, scooters, wheelchairs, rollerblades and skateboards—takes up the southern portion of the park, while the northern half will feature the parkour course, as well as permanent cornhole boards and plenty of space for open play.

“The parkour area has a rubber surface, so it’s safe but still really fun and challenging,” says Pochapsky. “And then, of course, there will be picnic tables, benches and stacked retaining walls throughout the park—good viewing spots for family and friends who want to watch the action.”

Speaking of action…

There’s plenty of it taking place in our new north Calgary community of Lewiston. Phase One of this highly anticipated development is well underway, with show homes set to open in fall 2024.

“In just a few short months, prospective buyers will be able to look at and tour the new show homes by our Lewiston builder partners, who include McKee Homes, Genesis Builders Group and Sterling Homes,” says Ryan McKenzie, a senior development manager on the Genesis Land team.

According to McKenzie, each builder will be displaying two front-attached houses in the show home parade, as well as a detached model. Of course, with 184 homes on offer within this first phase of Lewiston (and 1,000 homes within the entire, completed community), there will be many additional home models available to prospective buyers as well.

“In all, Phase One will have a mix of front attached, rear detached and duplex and zero-lot-line product, so there’s quite a good variety within this phase,” McKenzie says, adding that later phases will feature additional product types, including town homes and multi-family options.

Indeed, Lewiston’s product variety, coupled with its desirable north Calgary location and appealing amenities have already made it a popular choice for homebuyers—so much so that builders are already actively selling in the community. “We’ve actually sold about 35 percent of Phase One without any show homes being open,” says McKenzie. “Sales have been strong.”

Among the many amenities that Phase One buyers have to look forward to are a robust pathway system, an abundance of green spaces, a naturalized stream with a trail running alongside it, and a lovely, 25-acre wetland park. “There will also be a new park in Phase One that will include a play center for younger children,” says McKenzie.

In future phases, the community will feature a large retail district, a school site, basketball and pickleball courts, and numerous parks and playgrounds. And the really good news is, these amenities will all be available sooner than originally planned.

“Lewiston is actually exceeding our original expectations in terms of build-out,” says McKenzie. “We had anticipated the completion of Lewiston to be a 10-year project, but it turns out it’s going to be seven to eight years instead, which is really exciting.”
